REGULATIONS
These rules shall apply to the GORE-TEX
Transalpine-Run. By registration, payment and participation every
participant accepts these rule and confirms that he/she has read,
understood and accepted the conditions of participation.
1. Event Characteristic
The GORE-TEX Transalpine-Run
is a stage race across the Alps from the northern across the central
to the southern Alps. Different parts of the route partially lead
through high alpine terrain which demand special experiences and
knowledge of each participant:
Each participant
has to have a general alpine experience.
Each participant
has to have the ability to hike savely in high alpine terrain and
exposed terrain
Each participant
has to be experienced to hike difficult alpine terrain, for example
fixed ropes- passages.
Each participant
has to have a very good sense of direction in alpine terrain, also
under bad weather and
visibility circumstances.
This also means that each participant has to be able to orientate
guided by
topographic maps
or guided by the trailbook´s information and maps.
Each participant
has know about the behaviour in emergency situations in alpine terrain.
2. Team Ranking
Because of safety considerations, all participants of the
GORE-TEX Transalpine-Run have to start in teams of two. Both
participants of each team have to appear together at the start,
at all checkpoints and at the finish; otherwise the team will not
be ranked in the daily results. Should one team member arrive more
than 2 minutes before her/his partner at one of the checkpoints,
the team will be given a 60-minute time penalty, if repeated the
team will be disqualified.
Participants will be sleeping in the above-mentioned towns according
to each stage. Your time will be taken at the finish of each stage.
The next day everyone starts at the same time. In Latsch, the final
times will be taken and winners declared based on their added up
times. The start will be everyday at 8:00 a.m. and the finish line
will close at 6:00 p.m.. All of the daily routes will be mapped out in a road
book you will receive prior to the race. Everyday, participants
will pass through 2 to 3 control stations where they will be asked
to check in with their race pass. At the end of the race, only those
racers who checked in at every control station will be in the final
rankings. Every evening there will be a post race party with the
daily honours to the stage winners and the leader jersey for the
overall leaders.
3. Categories
The different team categories are: MEN, WOMEN, MASTER MEN
(when a team is male and combined over 80 years old, Aug 28, 2008
is the cut off date) and MIXED (one man and one woman).
4. Required Equipment
Mandatory equipment to be carried during the whole event
in at least one bag pack/team
rain gear
warm clothing as
an isolation under the rain gear (for bad weather conditions which
may appear
surprisingly in
the Alps)
gloves and warm
cap
first aid kit and
rescue blanket
blistering plaster,
tape
This equipment will be checked randomly by the event organizers
before the start. If you do not carry the mandatory equipment you
will be not allowed to start and might cause disqualification. An
exception to this rule at single stages can be announced by the
Race- and course director in the daily briefings.
In addition the participants sleeping in the Transalpine-Run-Camp
need a sleeping bag and a mat.
5. Start Numbers And Race
Pass
Start numbers (both members of one team have the same start
number) must be worn and must be visible. The logo placement on
the start numbers has to be visible and no additional advertising
may be added. The transponder chip in the start number will be scanned
at the start, at every checkpoint and at the finish line.
The leading teams in each category are obliged to wear the leader
jerseys.
Each participant must carry his/her race pass during the race at
all times. The race pass includes a picture of the participant and
a bar code, which might be scanned at the start, the checkpoints
and the finish line for all participants.
6. Timing
Timing will be individual for each participant using a transponder
system (chip electronically keeping the individual time at all stages).
This transponder has to be attached as instructed, worn during all
stages and returned immediately at the end of the race at the official
return point. In case a transponder gets lost or becomes unusable,
the participant will get a replacement and has to pay for a lost
one (SFR 100,-). This does not apply in case that a "throw-away-chip"
is used (ask at the accreditation).
7. Start/Briefing
The start set-up begins 30 minutes before the starting time
listed below. The daily briefing for all participants held by the
race- and course director, begins 15 minutes before the starting
time. Exception is Ruhpolding, where the extensive briefing on the
entire race is held during the evening party on Friday and again
at 09 a.m before the start on Saturday. In every other stage town
there will be held a detailed course briefing for the following
stage during the evening party. In these briefings the participants
will be informed about the course of the following day and special
features. The start is open every day up to 10 minutes after the
starting time listed below. Teams starting up to 10 minutes after
the starting time listed below will be measured according to the
official starting time. Teams that start later than 10 minutes after
the official starting time will not be considered in the results.
For the start in Ruhpolding the start set-up will be according
to start numbers. From the 1st stage on, the teams will be placed
in different starting sectors according to their placement in the
overall ranking.
8. Neutralised Start
A possible neutralised start is announced by the race and
course director in the briefing. When a neutralized start is announced
you are not allowed to pass other participants or the leading motos.
9. Check Points
During each stage there will be between one and three mandatory
checkpoints, where both members of each team have to report to with
their race passes. Teams, that do not pass one of the checkpoints
(for example because they have lost the way), will receive a time
penalty of 60 minutes for each checkpoint missed. The jury reserves
the right to impose a higher or lower time penalty in special cases.
Both participants' race passes will be scanned (together) at the
checkpoints in the order of their arrival. Should one participant
arrive within the time limit of two minutes before his/her partner,
he/she has to wait with queuing until his/her partner arrives.
10. Race Schedule
The daily race schedule will be announced from the race-
and course director in the daily briefing. The schedule will set
different time limits at different points of the course (for example
3 o´clock pm at checkpoint 3). These time limits will be shown
in the trailbook as a clue but are subject to change by the Race
Director because of changing weather- or course conditions. The
teams have to pass these points prior to these deadlines, otherwise,
for their own safety, they will be taken out of the race by the
race director or the finish crew.
11. Finish
At the finish of each stage, the participants have to arrive
together as a team and check in with their race passes. The official
valuation of the stage will be made at the finish. Teams, that arrive
after the finish time limit due to exhaustion, injury, etc., but
are still walking, will receive the maximum racing time (from official
starting time to finish-time) plus 60 minutes, and are allowed to
start again the following day. Teams that can prove a severe injury
and arrive at the finish in/on a vehicle, will receive the maximum
racing time (from official starting time to finish-time) plus 120
minutes, and are also allowed to start again the following day,
but will not be an official finisher then. If one team member quits
the race but the other team member wishes to continue, the race
office will help to find another partner. There is no guarantee
for finding a new team partner. These new teams do not qualify for
the official ranking, but their finishing times will be recorded
in the category "not included in official ranking", but
they will receive the finisher T-shirt if they have finished all
8 stages. I.e. only those participants will receive the finisher
shirt in Latsch who finished every single stage walking/running!
12. Withdrawal From The
Race
Teams that cannot continue the race, for whatever reason,
must inform the organizers immediately. They have to do it at the
start, the checkpoints, and the finish area or by calling the rescue
phone number which will be announced before the start in Oberstdorf.
Not to inform the organisation will cause a search and rescue operation
(rescue team, mountain rescue, helicopter) at
charge of the participant/s.
Teams who want to withdraw from the event have to sign off at the
race office in the respective stage town. Remember to return the
transponder and to cancel the room reservation. Everyone is responsible
for his/her own transportation; the local tourism offices will be
pleased to help you.
13. Time Penalties and

participants and teams or give time penalties if one or more of
the following points or other major violations apply:

rescue team. Drafting with persons who do not take part in the race
is not allowed.
16. Nature Conservation

as forestry roads,
hiking trails,
alpine paths and high alpine sections.
Participants have

away, in particular wrapping of food, bottles and beverages, is
only allowed directly at the
checkpoints.
Escort vehicles
are not allowed to affect the race in any way. Support from moving
escort vehicles is not

time penalties for the supported team. In the case that support
vehicle are moving on closed
streets this will lead to immediate disqualification of the supported
team!
Partners of one
team are allowed to support each other but have to obey the traffic
rules.
Slower participants
are required to make way for faster racers.
Complex parts of
the route have to be walked with appropriate caution.
The organizers might
call "no passing" rules or demand to reduce speed - in
these sections. The
organizers might
place signs at these sections or place additional safety features
(as fixed ropes)
The organizers might,
due to changing weather conditions, change the course before the
event at short
notice or, if
necessary, cancel a whole stage!
At any time the
principles of courtesy, sportsmanlike and fair behaviour shall be
applied.
The GORE-TEX Transalpine-Run mostly uses
forest roads, hiking and single paths through alpine terrain. Aside
the marked trails there might be danger of falling. Every participant/team
runs at own risk.
18. Protests and Jury
Each participant is allowed to raise an objection against
rules disrespects from other teams or against decisions of the race
director up to one hour after finish time limit in the race office.
He/she has to name witnesses. A jury with three members (race director,
