Vrin
STAGE 3 – FINISH LINE
STAGE 4 – START LINE
Deep in the Val Lumnezia, at an altitude of 1448 meters above sea level, lies the award-winning mountain village of Vrin. Through sustainable construction, this community, threatened by depopulation, has succeeded in breathing new life into the village.
The residents of Vrin and economics professor Peter Rieder believed in the village’s centuries-old economic foundation and developed a model for how a village can survive on mountain agriculture. What was economically sound and socially supported was translated into architecture by local resident Gion A. Caminada. His log buildings, typical of Vrin, are characterized by their simplicity in wood, and he has further developed their construction techniques.
One of architect Gion A. Caminada’s most admired works, the mortuary shows how Vrin blends rural tradition with contemporary design.
