The Transalpine Run: a legend since 2005
The Dynafit Transalpine Run (TAR) is one of the best-known and most demanding stage races in the trail running scene. Since its premiere in 2005, the event has developed into an international classic that attracts runners from all over the world every year. The basic idea is as simple as it is fascinating: crossing the Alps on foot in several stages—an extraordinary adventure that combines athletic performance, team spirit, and mental strength.
Concept: Multi Day Stage race crossing the Alps
The TAR is a multi-day stage race that covers around 250–300 kilometers and more than 15,000 meters of elevation gain in 7 days. The routes vary each year to keep the event varied and exciting. While the athletes run across the Alps, their luggage is transported to the next accommodation.
Competitions: For Teams and Solo Racers
Originally designed for teams of two, the Transalpine Run remains rooted in shared racing where partners run every stage together across the Alps.
Today, the race offers multiple formats: TAR Team, TAR Solo, and RUN2, and categories such as Men, Women, and Mixed Teams, with rankings based on stage results and overall performance across the week.
The TAR Spirit: the TAR Family
The Transalpine Run is more than a race: it is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, an adventure that is unparalleled in the world of trail running. Over the course of the week, hundreds of athletes become a close-knit community, together with the organizers and the local communities, carried by a unique atmosphere – the “TAR Family”
Target group: Trailrunner & Adventurer
The Transalpine Run is aimed at experienced trail runners who are looking for the adventure of crossing the Alps. As the individual stages, averaging 30 to 40 kilometers, rarely exceed the ultra distance, the finisher rate is very high at more than 80%.

What makes the TAR so special?
What makes the Transalpine Run unique worldwide is the combination of athletic challenge, scenic experience, and intense community:
- Spectacular trails: From technical high mountain sections to flowing mountain paths to culturally rich valleys.
- Perfect organization: Luggage transport, aid stations, route marking, and medical care ensure a professional event.
- Team spirit: Especially in teams of two, the race thrives on fighting, supporting, and experiencing together.
- International community: Hundreds of athletes from over 30–40 nations make the event a global trail running gathering.
