Walking into Day Two of the LOWA TRAIL TROPHY, not knowing what to expect, we were met with news that fresh snow had blanketed the trails in the early hours—too late to reroute. Cut-off times were extended to ensure every runner could face the mountains with caution, with their safety as the race directors’ unwavering priority.

There is a Grand Slam in golf and tennis. I have concocted my own distance running grand slam attempt for year 60. This is slanted to mountain running but includes the grand daddy of marathons on pavement. The only thing that matters about this agenda is it`s hard as hell and it`s personal to me. But I truly believe it`s unique and stresses and demands versatility as a distance runner. Each event has a specific "comfort crisis" goal (or will have a goal as I analyze each attempt; more on that later). I have already completed leg 1 and missed the goal by 84 seconds. I am beyond excited, grateful and humbled by this schedule and blessed to be able to train in Telluride, CO. **There is only one possible change - I am on the waiting list for the Transalpine Run and 🙏my TAR family can get me in; but I might have to substitute something else for leg 3.

🥉 LTT - second stage. Straight up: Today was a hard grind for me. The deep snow up top like 30cm+ had me struggling hard and took me some minutes. The guys ahead were racing it great - chapeau 🤝🏽🔥 Either way, also today wasn’t my best day - or maybe I’m just not cut out for this 🫣
Went out faster than yesterday, but after bailing again due to the snowy terrain after the highest point, I had to slow down a bit. Bruised a rib 😵💫 Let’s see how it goes tomorrow🤞🏽At least my knee’s holding up & it was enough for a podium again 🙃

🤗Ich hab die erste Etappe der LOWA Trail Trophy 2025 geschafft: 21,7 KM - 1.732 HM rauf – 1.463 HM runter!
✔️Und wie wars…? Es hat geregnet, es war neblig und es kamen sogar ein paar Schneeflocken runter. Aber das schlechte Wetter war total egal, denn das Rennen war einfach nur genial.
🤩Traumhafte (heute: rutschige) Trails, super tolle Menschen auf der Strecke getroffen, so viel Spaß, Freude in den nassen Gesichtern und allerbeste Stimmung. Freu mich schon dolle auf die nächste Etappe.

✔️How was it...? It was raining, it was foggy and there were even a few snowflakes coming down. But the bad weather didn’t matter at all, because the race was just brilliant.
🤩 Fantastic (today: slippery) trails, meeting great people on the course, so much fun, joy in the wet faces and the very best atmosphere. Can’t wait to get started again.

🇬🇧 Only day 1 of the LOWA Trail Trophy, and already the rugged paths between Pfronten and Grän have carved their way into my memory. These borderlands of Germany and Austria — where mountains rise and clouds drift low — have a way of stirring something deep. My running spirit is lit again, steady and sure, and not even rain or snow tomorrow can put it out. Out here, where the wild still speaks, Mother Nature quietly does her work — reminding you who you are, and why you started. 🏔️
🇩🇪 Erst Tag 1 der LOWA Trail Trophy – und schon haben sich die rauen Pfade zwischen Pfronten und Grän tief in mein Gedächtnis eingegraben.
Diese Grenzlandschaft zwischen Deutschland und Österreich – wo sich Berge erheben und Wolken tief ziehen – weckt etwas in einem, das man kaum in Worte fassen kann.
Mein Laufgeist ist wieder entfacht – ruhig, kraftvoll, beständig. Nicht einmal Regen oder Schnee morgen könnten dieses Feuer löschen.

🇬🇧 Only day 1 of the LOWA Trail Trophy, and already the rugged paths between Pfronten and Grän have carved their way into my memory. These borderlands of Germany and Austria — where mountains rise and clouds drift low — have a way of stirring something deep. My running spirit is lit again, steady and sure, and not even rain or snow tomorrow can put it out. Out here, where the wild still speaks, Mother Nature quietly does her work — reminding you who you are, and why you started. 🏔️
🇩🇪 Erst Tag 1 der LOWA Trail Trophy – und schon haben sich die rauen Pfade zwischen Pfronten und Grän tief in mein Gedächtnis eingegraben.
Diese Grenzlandschaft zwischen Deutschland und Österreich – wo sich Berge erheben und Wolken tief ziehen – weckt etwas in einem, das man kaum in Worte fassen kann.
Mein Laufgeist ist wieder entfacht – ruhig, kraftvoll, beständig. Nicht einmal Regen oder Schnee morgen könnten dieses Feuer löschen.

The start to the LOWA trail trophy kicked off with moody (and wet!) weather, but it was going to take more than rain, mud and super slippery terrain to crash the awesome vibes from everyone in the #LOWAfamily.
The course was jam-packed with absolutely spectacular trails and wide-open, breathtaking views. It was awesome! And while there might be a lot of mud to clean up tonight… we are excited for tomorrow’s forecast which will hopefully be much brighter. ☀️
